Lone Star Dinosaurs
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
Master Planning, Design and Fabrication
First we look. Then we really look. Then we relate and compare and deduce. Gradually, the process of science emerges.
Lone Star Dinosaurs, Hands On!'s latest collaboration with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (FWMSH), offers a lively introduction to paleontology. Exciting new discoveries have been made in Fort Worth in recent years and this exhibition showcases these unique Texas dinosaurs. We worked with FWMSH's staff and curators, paleontologists, NSF advisors, film producers, multimedia experts and museum evaluators to create an inquiry-based dinosaur exhibition that could only exist in Fort Worth.
The Lone Star Dinosaur exhibition uses dinosaurs not as the focus of the exhibition, but as a tool for actively engaging visitors in the process of science. Delving into the field of paleontology gives visitors a representative experience and understanding of the processes shared by many fields of science. The emphasis is placed on “How can we find out?” not “What do we know?” This approach includes the visitor in the current research being done by FWMSH and allows them to become active participants in the process of science. The visitor can experience what scientists already know—that science is a living, changing body of knowledge.
