Historically Speaking
The building that houses the Hands On! offices is as unique and time-tested as our team’s approach to museum design. The Green-Richman Arcade was designed in Mission Revival style by St. Petersburg architect George Feltham and built in 1925 during the city’s first commercial boom era. The Green-Richman Arcade was one of eleven shopping arcades built in the downtown core up to the 1940s; today it is one of only three that remain from that vibrant period of the city’s history.
In the mid-1990s, Hands On! founder Lyn Wood rescued the Green-Richman Arcade from demolition and renovated it as the home of Hands On! Inc. The renovation led the building to be listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, one of only a few such designations in this area. From our contemporary conference room for charettes to the creatively conducive offices that occupy the entire second floor, we are constantly inspired by this space and are happy to be part of its ongoing story.
